o level results

A MONTH before the O-level examinations last October, Haw Sue Hern, 16, who topped this year's results, was playing card games, badminton and jogging.
Consistent hard work and revision gave the CHIJ St Nicholas Girls' School a breather before sitting for the papers.

Sue Hern emerged top among the 36,640 O-level students who took the exams last year, with a score of 10 A1s.
The results, released on Monday, showed that 99.9 per cent O-level students received certificates. 80.3 per cent or 29,592 had five or more O-level passes. 94.6 per cent or 36,675 had three of more 0-level passes.

Nearly a third (32.4 per cent) or 4,253 of the secondary four Normal (Academic) students sat for one of two 0-level exams. Of these, 90.5 per cent got at least one O-level pass.

Of the 3,087 private candidates who sat for the O levels last year, 2,739 or 88.7 per cent were awarded certificates.
