carroll county public schools



Public schools in Frederick and Carroll counties are closing two hours early today because of freezing rain.
Frederick County Public Schools has also canceled all after-school and evening activities.

Morning pre-kindergarten students will remain at school and be dismissed together with full-day students. Afternoon pre-kindergarten classes, as well as classes at the Flexible Evening High School and Heather Ridge Twilight program, have also been canceled.

Afternoon classes at the Frederick County Career and Technology Center have been canceled, and students who attend afternoon classes at the center will remain at their home schools.

The Maryland School for the Deaf is also dismissing students two hours early.

The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisory for Frederick and Carroll counties that will remain in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The weather service expects periods of freezing rain to continue this afternoon and into the evening, though temperatures are expected to remain steady at just below freezing until warming slightly overnight.

The greatest impact is expected to take place in higher elevations, where a thin layer of ice could accumulate.
